Usual attendees

The participants of the BMWC are common people practicing paganism or interested in it as well as in meeting other people and sharing views and ideas. The people that attend the BMWC usually come from the Czech Republic and Slovakia, but we have had participants from the United Kingdom and United States as well. The smallest BMWC meeting had just five participants, the biggest one consisted of twenty four pagans and witches. If there is anything we have in common apart from our interests, it’s definitely our reason, sense of humour and willingness to dedicate our time and energy to useful purposes. We do not seek for lunatics or esoteric weirdos – most of us are very well grounded in reality and we try to think and act practically. The BMWC is sometimes attended by parents with children and pets are also not a problem.

BMWC 11: When and Where

BMWC 11

3.9. - 7.9. 2008
The 11th BMWC Conference will take place in the small town Sloup v Èechách, with accommodation in a guest-house directly below the medieval rock castle Sloup. The guest house will be booked privately for BMWC, although the restaurant will be publicly open for lunches. We thus have available for private use a wide covered terrace and a garden with a fireplace overlooked by the rocky outcrop of the castle (with space for those camping). For lectures, seminars and workshops we have the possibility of booking the restaurant, as well as reserving a classroom in the local school, or even the nearby forest theatre.
The guest house provides 15 beds in the building itself (in rooms for 2, 3 or 4 people), 5 beds in the neighbouring apartment, and an outdoor space for 1 or 2 tents. The overall capacity of the guest-house is therefore 20+8, so we recommend early registration to be sure of a place.
Car parking is available near to the guest-house, and for those coming via public transport we can arrange pick up at the train or bus station of Novy Bor, a nearby city with a direct train connection from Prague (of approximately 1 1/2 hours).
Sloup v Èechách, perched in the hills amongst deep pine and spruce forests, is surrounded both by breathtaking countryside and cultural landmarks. As well as the  fourteenth century rock castle, and nearby pond with a bathing area, an open air forest theatre is just three minutes climb away, and the renowned sandstone chapel Modlivy Dul (Praying Mine) is a short walk through the hills. A few kilometres away, by the valley of Svitavka river, is a labyrinthine complex of sandstone caves, some in active use (www.pekelne-doly.cz), but the rest publicly available.
